Website Irritations

I don’t know about you but i get really irritated when i open a website and your greeted with annoying pop ups, pop behinds, subscribe pop ups and any other pop ups, it seems this week i have been plagued by them.

There is the juggling banners telling me i am the millionth visitor and the stat counter shows they have had 2 visitors now if it had said congratulations your our third visitor i might have clicked the OK button.

“You are our 3 millionth visitor subscribe now and win a toy car”

There is also another big annoyance when you visit a site and a big pop up appears “Subscribe To Our Newsletter” what? i have only just set eyes on the place why the hell would i want to subscribe before i have read a sentence?

Then there is the site that will take forever to load and you sit tapping your fingers with immense frustration, i usually go and make a mug of coffee then by the time i get back that last graphic has just finished loading then as you think it’s all settled down up comes a pop up asking to subscribe etc arrggghh!!

I have started a new poll to see what irritates you most when you open a site? you can choose two if you choose “all the above” you can use your second choice to specify which one out of the options irritates you most

“Why not also leave a comment and vent some frustration about your choice”

What really irritates you when you open a website?

  • In your face selling (2%, 2 Votes)
  • Just in your face (2%, 3 Votes)
  • Juggling banner ads (2%, 3 Votes)
  • In your face newsletter invites (5%, 6 Votes)
  • Pop behinds (5%, 7 Votes)
  • Other (6%, 8 Votes)
  • Slow loaders (17%, 23 Votes)
  • Pop ups (24%, 32 Votes)

Slow loaders are bad, but at least I can run and get a snack while I wait. I hate the side or top ads that grOW and cover the copy I came to read. And the music players that are hard to find and turn down, if not off.

    3. Warren Contreras says:

I marked all, but I don’t really mind autoplay sound and videos. I just turn my sound down before I get started. What I really hate is pop-ups from pop-ups like a firestorm and it’s all I can do to get out. I can’t IMAGINE how anyone would think they can get you do do anything that way???

What! YOU were the millionth visitor?! I was the millionth visitor!

Really though, I do hate that. And as someone who’s trying to get my own blog out there and get traffic it’s been tempting to add ad’s and pop-ups but in the end I’m sure it’ll just keep people away, and I remember how I hate those things on other sites!

      • stevebethere says:

@ Catherine – Damn they lied how cruel ;-) it looks like the toy car is yours lol.

I agree some with it keeping people way, i just leave the site if there is constant annoyances as mentioned in the post.

The wish to connect with other (longing for the readers) naturally blossoms out multitude of adds, yet that spots the purity of the original dream. The results may irritate the viewers despite our nice intentions. Now I am going to check my Butterfly in the Plaster and thank you for that help.

You know what else bugs me? The music that starts to play, but you can’t find the widget to stop or pause it. It never fails that one of those comes up when I’m already listening to something. That is so annoying. Even when I’m not listening to something and my speakers are up loud then it scares me to death. Aargh! What I think is truly annoying and dangerous are those flashing ads. I mean come on, hasn’t anyone seen the movie The Andromeda Strain (the original, haven’t seen the remake)? For people with health issues related to flashing signs and colors, this has got to be the most inconsiderate, rude, selfish display of them all. Have they no consideration for triggering a potential epileptic attack???

Some web sites don’t sell anything. They have no income. They will try anything to generate an income. These are mostly rookies designers with Google ad spam sites. Then you have seasonal designers who make web sites that offer some kind of online tool that you must use online so they have no way of generating an income besides showing some kind of popup or splash that generates either money or some kind of exchange. In then end it does not matter that much as long as your not serving to many popups or trojans. Your visitors will usually endure the pain to get what they want, unless they can get from somewhere else without the constant ads.
