Website Irritations

I don’t know about you but i get really irritated when i open a website and your greeted with annoying pop ups, pop behinds, subscribe pop ups and any other pop ups, it seems this week i have been plagued by them.

There is the juggling banners telling me i am the millionth visitor and the stat counter shows they have had 2 visitors now if it had said congratulations your our third visitor i might have clicked the OK button.

“You are our 3 millionth visitor subscribe now and win a toy car”

There is also another big annoyance when you visit a site and a big pop up appears “Subscribe To Our Newsletter” what? i have only just set eyes on the place why the hell would i want to subscribe before i have read a sentence?

Then there is the site that will take forever to load and you sit tapping your fingers with immense frustration, i usually go and make a mug of coffee then by the time i get back that last graphic has just finished loading then as you think it’s all settled down up comes a pop up asking to subscribe etc arrggghh!!

I have started a new poll to see what irritates you most when you open a site? you can choose two if you choose “all the above” you can use your second choice to specify which one out of the options irritates you most

“Why not also leave a comment and vent some frustration about your choice”

i just frigging hate them all. Let me look around first and hey, then if I want to subscribe or click on something I will.

@ Megaman – Let it all out Megaman lol 🙂

Well I hat the noisy ones. but if you were to go to my site and read a few articles you would understand that I have no job and will try as many ways to earn income as possible.

There are millions of us just scraping by for pennies a visitor, thanks to living in an obama world.

  2. DogsMom says:

Slow loaders are bad, but at least I can run and get a snack while I wait. I hate the side or top ads that grOW and cover the copy I came to read. And the music players that are hard to find and turn down, if not off.

    • stevebethere says:

@ DogsMom – I agree about the music for exactly the same reason especially when you have several tabs open and your trying to find which one it’s coming from lol.

  3. Warren Contreras says:

I marked all, but I don’t really mind autoplay sound and videos. I just turn my sound down before I get started. What I really hate is pop-ups from pop-ups like a firestorm and it’s all I can do to get out. I can’t IMAGINE how anyone would think they can get you do do anything that way???

    • stevebethere says:

@ Warren – I find all the above a major irritant, unless i like reading the site i just close it.

Thanks Warren your feedback is always appreciated.

  4. stevebethere says:

@ Catherine – Damn they lied how cruel 😉 it looks like the toy car is yours lol.

I agree some with it keeping people way, i just leave the site if there is constant annoyances as mentioned in the post.

thanks for stopping to leave some feedback 🙂

  5. stevebethere says:

Well just visited a blog and got two different pop ups at once 😯

Thank you for the article. It was very beneficial – reminded me the need to check my blog on its appearance. The wish to connect with other (longing for the readers) naturally blossoms out multitude of adds, yet that spots the purity of the original dream. The results may irritate the viewers despite our nice intentions. Now I am going to check my Butterfly in the Plaster and thank you for that help.

    • stevebethere says:

@ Tomas – Your blog seems free of irritations lol,

thank you for stopping by i will add you to my drop list 🙂

  7. Carrie says:

I also loathe poor font choice. I know everyone wants to be an individual but seriously, some fonts are just NOT blog friendly/website friendly

    • stevebethere says:

@ Carrie – Thanks for pointing that one out, one i never thought to put on the poll.

thanks again for taking time to comment 😉

PS. I hope my fonts were ok lol 🙂

  8. elvie says:

    Twitter ID:

i can tolerate ads that do not make sound and just pop up on your face.
my blogs are full of ads too hehehe… but i’m thinking of cleaning them up.

    • stevebethere says:

@ elvie – To be honest i don’t mind ads they don’t bother me at all as long as they don’t blatently pop up in me face 😯 i have seen your site and i can confirm it’s irritant free lol ;-).

      Thanks for your comment

PS. I love the sweet and sour chicken with sesame recipe, yum!

      • elvie says:

        Twitter ID:

thanks for checking out my blog, i was really trying to minimize the displayed ads because it takes time to upload them.

by the way, did you try the recipe? you cooked?

        • stevebethere says:

          @ elvie – Welcome back!
          yes it does i agree

not yet i haven’t but an looking forward to trying it, although i would have to minimise the garlic 😯

  9. Steve says:

What really bugs me is websites that take forever to load. Then when they finally load there is 3 columns of ads and a small 25 word post.

    • stevebethere says:

      @ Steve
Yes a major annoyance for me too, i sometimes lose my patience and move on but don’t like to do that if it is a blog i like reading

although some are just blips some are permanently slow.

      thank you for sharing

PS. Those spare ribs were massive 😯

  10. harish says:

Great to see some one reacting on this issue… Really.

  11. Healthy Lifestyle says:

i very hate slow loaders (blog with lot of image ) because my internet connection is limited and i have slow connection. voted

    • stevebethere says:

      @ Healthy Lifestyle
It can be very frustrating waiting (that rhymed) 😯

thanks for taking time to comment

  12. Carol Yates Wilkerson says:

    Twitter ID:

Music with no way to turn it off. Grrr!

    • stevebethere says:

      @ Carol
I usually scramble for the volume off button 😮

      thanks for your feedback

  13. Twitter ID:

The loading music takes the cake for me.

    • stevebethere says:

      @ tonyknuckles
I agree it seems to be quite unpopular among the choices and was one of mine too.

thanks for commenting your preference 🙂

  14. Auntie E says:

I will get agony with that ” Congratulation you have won” sound as I visit a blog. I just want to scream!!!!!

  15. FreeMoneyMaker says:

    Twitter ID:

Ohh….its really irritating .I don’t visit much such sites. It takes lot of time to read their main contents and takes lot of patience. Why they are in hurry to sell their newsletter,I think this is the most worst think for a site.

    • stevebethere says:

      @ FreeMoneyMaker
I agree, it annoys me more if it’s a blog i like reading a lot others i will just close and try again later if it is too slow loading.

      thanks for commenting 🙂

  16. Comedy Plus says:

    Twitter ID:

Music is the worst, but all of this drives me over the edge. I voted all of the above.

    Have a terrific day. 🙂

  17. stevebethere says:

Has anyone else noticed a big influx on EC with plain banner ads and no EC widgets or if they have a widget some of the sites seem connected with each other?

  18. Petula says:

You know what else bugs me? The music that starts to play, but you can’t find the widget to stop or pause it. It never fails that one of those comes up when I’m already listening to something. That is so annoying. Even when I’m not listening to something and my speakers are up loud then it scares me to death. Aargh! Makes me wanna leave a rude comment, but I resist and still try to find something I like to comment on. Great post.

    • stevebethere says:

      Twitter ID:

      @ Petula
I had to laugh at your comment it’s exactly how i feel.

If you have music on the audio from whatever site always comes on ten times louder lol which makes it even worse if you have no music on at all and yes it makes you jump, its so annoying.

Thank you for stopping by and contributing 🙂

  19. Prisqua says:

    Twitter ID:

What annoys me the most on a web page is audio but you also have a very good point with newsletter sign up… but then again, isn’t what the so-called gurus tell you to do so “you can build your list”?

  20. jamezu says:

    POP UPS!!!
i think thats the single most irritating feature of some websites.

  21. stevebethere says:

    Twitter ID:

    @ jamezu
    Especially the floating ones

    thanks for the feedback;-)

  22. Arturo Dispacio says:

On websites – indeed anywhere: people who use the lower-case ‘i’ instead of I, even when it is at the beginning of a sentence.

I also agree with the other complaints about irritations on websites. I particularly dislike those pop-ups when you inadvertently put your cursor over a highlighted word.

    • stevebethere says:

      Twitter ID:

      @ Arturo
I get where your coming from it is irritating when it pops over what your reading.

checks site for any lower case i’s lol 🙂

Thanks for your feedback It’s always welcome.

    • Prisqua says:

      Twitter ID:

Why is it bad the “i” instead of the “I” – English is not my first language so I might have missed something at school… (checking my “I” too… lol)

  23. Blog Tactic says:

I hate site written with camel-case letterings

  24. All of the listed are quite irritating to me, so I chose all. However, I’d put slow loaders as the most irritating and wastes a lot of your time.

    • stevebethere says:

      Twitter ID:

      @ bigdaddyrichard
Hi, All the above does seem the most popular choice, i agree with Slow loaders that was one of my choices the other was Audo starting on load up

      Thanks for your feedback 🙂

  25. Twitter ID:

I hate ‘skip this’ ads 🙁 Autoplay audio always make me jump and the pop-ups asking me to subscribe are a pain 🙁

    • stevebethere says:

      Twitter ID:

      @ John
Ah yes forgot about ‘skip this’ ads

Autoplay audio always makes me jump too lol

Many thanks for taking the time too comment 🙂

  26. Theresa says:

    Twitter ID:

I truly hate the talking heads that auto play. If I want to listen, I’m perfectly capable of turning on an audio/video, thank you very much. Actually, since I’ve got my headset plugged in, and the speakers off, it’s just a slight annoyance, but still…

What I think is truly annoying and dangerous are those flashing ads. I mean come on, hasn’t anyone seen the movie The Andromeda Strain (the original, haven’t seen the remake)? For people with health issues related to flashing signs and colors, this has got to be the most inconsiderate, rude, selfish display of them all. Have they no consideration for triggering a potential epileptic attack???

  27. Ron from CD Duplication London says:

Not all sites are perfect, sometimes they have flaws like these irritations. I am experiencing some of this pop ups but it cannot be prevented right? The owner must realize it first.

  28. Glenny says:

I have problems with blogs that have massive amounts of ads! It is very obvious very quickly if a blog is a professional one (i.e. the person makes a living from it) and an aspiring professional one (i.e. adverts everywhere) It drives me crazy! You have just the right amount!

    • stevebethere says:

      Twitter ID:

      @ Glenny
I really hate ads with a passion lol i did have some but had to take them off, although i don’t mind some blog banners after all it does give links to others.

Thank you for your feedback its much appreciated. 🙂

  29. Twitter ID:

Frankly, all the above are irritating, but the most irritating are the pop-ups.

  30. Carol Yates Wilkerson says:

    Twitter ID:

I would vote for “all of the above” and add one more. Nothing dire, but I really hate those big honkin’ headers. And, followed by below those headers is a welcome box just as big. I even read one that welcomed the reader and then said how much they dislike American’s. OK. Not against the law…

    • stevebethere says:

      Twitter ID:

      @ Carol
That’s a strange way to welcome people i wouldn’t find that very welcoming.

Thanks for taking the time to comment 🙂

  31. cpm ad network says:

    Twitter ID:

Some web sites don’t sell anything. They have no income. They will try anything to generate an income. These are mostly rookies designers with Google ad spam sites. Then you have seasonal designers who make web sites that offer some kind of online tool that you must use online so they have no way of generating an income besides showing some kind of popup or splash that generates either money or some kind of exchange. In then end it does not matter that much as long as your not serving to many popups or trojans. Your visitors will usually endure the pain to get what they want, unless they can get from somewhere else without the constant ads.

  32. TK says:

    Twitter ID:

All of the above for me, but there’s a special place in hell reserved for flash ads with sound (and the marketing companies that create them). I have here the three most offensive phrases in the world to someone who hates these:

If you don’t get it, thank your lucky stars.

  33. Peter J says:

    Twitter ID:

hahaha, yeah i hate them all, but ads that popup behind the browser are so damn annoying :/

  34. Tommy Douglas says:

    Twitter ID:

Newsletter invites that will say anything (lie) to get me on their list just to send me annoying emails.

  35. I’ve actually read business blogs which comment that the full screen pop ups actually do work very well as a way to get more subscribers.

My thinking is that they are also going to scare off many potential readers, but unfortunately as long as they show results, people will do them.

  36. ropcorn says:

I chose all of the above with the slow loaders as my number one.

Too bad when a site is great, but loads super slow…I bet that site miss out on a lot of traffic.

Nice blog you have by the way!

    Take care,

  37. Sandro@Italian Songs says:

yes, I hate all of those as well. If I want to click to an offer or whatever, I will do it, I don’t need to be reminded with pop-ups, music, and annoying stuff like that.
Very good post (and website!) by the way!

  38. I hate all of them too. Pop-ups are most annoying, closely followed by audio which can scare the crap out of you when you’re not expecting it. Oh and in your face ads. I guess that’s why my blog is not a pro-blog….yet.

  39. Colleen Dick says:

    Twitter ID:

If the site truly annoys me I put it on a citizen blacklist. Right now those don’t do anything but I hope that some day someone will pay attention to them.

  40. Twitter ID:

The most irritating to me is to read good posts without any comments. Yet such reality not only irritates but challenges too, because it forces me to question myself whether I expressed my attitude (left the feedback) or just silently looked and thus was no better than other indifferent readers.

  41. Papabear says:

wow you also posted regarding this matter but you posted first >..< anyway.. I hate all them so I chose ALL OF THE ABOVE 🙂

  42. Art of RetroCollage says:

    Twitter ID:

I can’t tell you how many times I have to yank down the volume on my PC because of obnoxious loud undesired audio suddenly appearing. I would turn off my audio, but I do appreciate the dings that alert me to chat requests from friends.

  43. Newbies Niche Marketing says:

I don’t like sites that take forever to load with too many slow-loading images, sidebars full of every type of link and gimicky widget imaginable.

So people want to make some money with their blogs, but where do they want me to click. You can’t see the wood for the trees.

  44. Newbies Niche Marketing says:

Just thought of another pet hate – badly spun articles. Some of the worst ones that I’ve found are so bad that they’re funny, I really should bookmark so that I can find them again.

  45. Enfotainer says:

All the above, and Others – Where the author is just busy trying to lure visitors to his webpage which was updated months ago!

Out of these, the most irritating thing is when Audio or video starts to load up automatically, not to mention resulting in a completely snail-loading.

  46. Lainy says:

Music, pop-ups and the like are one of the few things that Entrecard should look closely into. These blogs violating the rules should be immediately deleted in the system. We share the same annoyance and frustration, Steve.

I’d like to know. Is my page too slow to load from your end?
